Potential Health Hazards Of Dirty Tile And Grout

Moving on from the benefits of hiring professional tile and grout cleaners, there are also potential health hazards associated with not regularly cleaning tile and grout. Even though most people don’t think twice about the cleanliness of their floors, it can actually have a significant impact on their health.

Dirty tile and grout can be home to mold, mildew, bacteria, allergens, and other contaminants. These particles can float up into the air and be breathed in by anyone in the home. This can cause a variety of illnesses ranging from allergies to asthma attacks. If someone in the home is already suffering from respiratory problems or another type of illness, dirty tile and grout can make symptoms worse.

In addition to breathing in these harmful particles, they may also collect on surfaces such as countertops and tables where food is prepared or eaten. This increases the risk of foodborne illnesses. Not only that but dirt, dust, and other contaminants that accumulate on dirty tile and grout may contain heavy metals which could leach into food or water. This could cause serious health problems if ingested over time.

It’s clear that regular cleaning of tile and grout is essential for maintaining a healthy home environment. Professional cleaners are equipped with the right tools to thoroughly clean your tiles so you can rest assured your home is safe from any potential health hazards associated with unclean surfaces.

Professional Cleaning Processes

Fortunately, hiring professional tile and grout cleaners can help to eliminate the potential health hazards of dirty tile and grout. Professional cleaning processes are designed to remove dirt, bacteria, and other contaminants that have accumulated over time. The first step in the process is to identify where the dirt and contaminants are located. Once those areas are identified, professional cleaners use specialized equipment and techniques to remove them.

For example, a technician may use a steam cleaner with high-pressure hot water vapors to loosen and remove stubborn stains from tiles and grouts. This method is especially effective in removing dirt, dust, oil deposits, mold, mildew, grease, soap scum and other debris from surfaces without damaging them. Additionally, technicians will often apply sealers after cleaning to keep tile surfaces looking like new for longer periods of time.

In addition to preventing unhealthy living conditions caused by dirty tile and grout, professional cleaning also increases the value of your home or business while enhancing its aesthetics. Professional cleaners understand how important it is for a space to look great as well as be safe for occupants. By hiring a professional cleaner you can ensure that your spaces look their best while avoiding any potential health risks associated with unclean tiles and grouts.

Cleaning Products Used By Professional Tile And Grout Cleaners

Transitioning from the professional cleaning processes, hiring a professional tile and grout cleaner can also bring many benefits due to the specialized cleaning products they use. Professional cleaners have access to products that are not available to the general public, making them more effective in removing dirt and debris from tile and grout surfaces. These products are specifically designed for tile and grout surfaces, so they won’t damage or discolor the material. Additionally, these products contain powerful detergents that can break down tough stains and grime more effectively than non-specialized cleaning products.

Another benefit of hiring a professional tile and grout cleaner is that they understand how to properly use each product. Professional cleaners know which product is best suited for specific types of surfaces, as well as how long it should be left on the surface before being rinsed off. They also have a better understanding of which products are safe to use around pets and children, eliminating any health risks associated with using harsh chemical cleaners. Finally, professional cleaners will make sure all of the cleaning solutions used are completely rinsed off with clean water after each use, preventing any residue from being left behind on tile or grout surfaces.

Overall, professional tile and grout cleaners offer an effective way to deep clean these surfaces without damaging them or putting anyone’s health at risk. They provide superior results by using specialized cleaning products that aren’t available to the general public and have the expertise necessary to properly apply them for maximum effectiveness. In fact, research shows that 80% of tile and grout cleaners use some form of power-washing equipment. To begin with, the basic tools range from steamers and pressure washers to scrubbers and vacuums. These machines allow for a deeper clean when tackling tough dirt and grime that has lodged itself in between tiles.

They also come equipped with high powered vacuums that can draw out dirt from even the tightest crevices. This is especially important when it comes to kitchen or bathroom floors where there are often many narrow areas between tiles that can easily be missed with manual cleaning efforts. Finally, some professional tile and grout cleaners will also utilize specially designed brushes and acids to help remove more stubborn stains and discoloration.

These advanced techniques allow them to tackle even the toughest of jobs quickly and efficiently while ensuring a superior level of cleanliness compared to other methods. It is clear that professional tile and grout cleaners have access to an array of specialized tools which enables them to guarantee a better quality service than what could be achieved through DIY methods alone.

Maintenance Tips To Keep Tile And Grout Looking New

Transitioning from the previous section, hiring professional tile and grout cleaners is like a breath of fresh air that can make a world of difference in the cleanliness and appearance of any tiled surface. After all, if done correctly, these professionals can restore tiles to their original condition. However, to keep them looking like new there are some important maintenance tips one should follow.

The first step in proper maintenance is regular cleaning. This means wiping down tile surfaces with a damp cloth or mop and using a mild cleaner on areas with tougher dirt or staining. It’s also important to regularly sweep away debris which can get lodged in grout lines and cause discoloration. Additionally, sealing both the tile and grout will help protect them from future damage by creating an extra barrier against dirt, moisture, stains, and bacteria.

Finally, it’s also important to address any spills immediately. If left unattended for too long they can seep into the tile and grout causing discoloration or worse yet damage that may be impossible to reverse without professional help. To prevent this from happening, always blot up spills quickly with an absorbent cloth or paper towel and then rinse off with warm water as soon as possible.

By following these simple steps you can ensure your tiles remain looking their best for years to come!

How to Prevent or Remove Dents in Carpet

Dents in residential carpet are an unfortunate side effect of having furniture. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid unsightly dents (and you won’t have to get rid of all your furniture or sit on the floor!).

Do you already have dents in your carpet? Don’t worry–there are easy methods to reverse them. Read on to find out more.

Preventing Dents In Residential Carpet

Preventing dents in residential carpet is all about using the right tools and strategies.

Try These Easy Tips:

Furniture coasters. Great for more than just protecting hardwood. By placing a sofa on top on top of furniture coasters, you’ll greatly reduce the pressure on the carpet underneath. That’s because the coasters spread out the weight of the sofa. When purchasing coasters to protect your carpet, look for ones designed specifically for use on carpeting.

Before you make a purchase, count the legs of your sofa (as longer furniture often has legs in the middle, not just on the ends) and measure how much room each foot will need. Then you’ll be ready to buy the appropriate number and size of coasters. recommends larger floor coasters for heavier furniture. (When you’re looking to purchase them or searching online, note that furniture coasters are sometimes also known as caster cups.)

Buy lighter furniture. This advice probably isn’t helpful if you’ve already bought your furniture, but keep in mind that super-heavy sofas, chairs or tables may not be the best choice if you’re furnishing a room with very plush carpet. The heavier a piece is, the more crush and strain it will put on the carpet underneath. In a tiebreaker between two sofas, buy the lighter piece. (As a bonus, your movers will thank you as well!)

Buy durable carpet. Again, this isn’t helpful if you’ve already committed to a purchasing decision, but if you’re buying now, consult with your installer about your carpet options. Certain types of carpet are more durable than others. In particular, high-density carpet may be less prone to dents.

Area Rugs. This is perhaps the simplest way to prevent dents in residential carpet. A thick rug will provide lots of armor for the carpet underneath. You can also combine an area rug with furniture coasters to provide additional protection. While it won’t be entirely visible, the right rug can provide a nice accent to your carpeting. Adding complimentary colors and patterns with an area rug will make the room more interesting to look at. If possible, try to have the rug in place before any furniture comes in to the room, as repositioning a rug under a sofa can be tricky.

A helpful source of information can be a salesperson at a rug store: They can recommend rugs that provide maximum protection. To decide what color, texture, and pattern of rug that will work best over your carpet, consult an interior designer, or at least take a picture of the room so that you can look at it while you consider the rug options at a store.

Move your furniture. Movement of your furniture is another option, although it does involve some serious effort. Of course, the last thing you want to do after settling a heavy piece of furniture into your home is to move it again. But moving your furniture around every few months is a great way to reduce the strain it puts on your carpet. Set a schedule so that it becomes a regular habit. Perhaps let your friends or family members know you’ll be cooking their favorite meal if they would like to come over and give you a hand. You don’t even have to move furniture far: Shifts of a few inches will do the trick.

Carpet squares. Now, this might sound like a silly way to prevent dents, but they work. If you have leftover pieces of carpet from the carpet installation, they can be ideal tools for protecting your carpet from dents. Moreover, they’ll blend in, since they’re the same color as the carpet they’re protecting. Simply cut them into a shape that fits the feet of your furniture, then place them underneath.

If you don’t have leftover carpet, don’t fear: With the right planning, you can buy more from a store. Choose a color that is close to your existing carpet. Measure your sofa’s feet and cut the pieces so that they barely show.

Removing Dents In Residential Carpet

If your carpet does have dents, there are several strategies you can use to get them out. These methods are fairly easy as well as inexpensive. They typically involve some combination of moisture followed by a drying action.

Ice Cubes

Good Housekeeping’s home-care expert Heloise recommends two simple and free methods for getting rid of dents in residential carpet.

Method 1: Place an ice cube on each dent. After 12 hours have passed, “blot up wet spots, then use the edge of a spoon to lift carpet fibers back up.”
Method 2: Use steam. Put a damp cloth over the dents, then “hold an iron, on medium heat, several inches above the cloth for about 30 to 60 seconds.” Be careful not to touch the carpet with the iron. Once you’re done, use the edge of a coin to brush up fibers.

Both of these solutions work well, especially considering how commonplace the tools are.

Water & Blow Dryer recommends a solution somewhat similar to the one above, but using different tools.

First, spritz some liquid on the dent so that the fibers are saturated. Then, blow dry it. The last step is to use your fingers to fluff up the drying fibers. If done well, this method can restore the carpet’s “original bounce while eradicating the dents that left its fibers limp and lackluster.”

Not too bad for some water and a common bathroom appliance!

Steam Cleaning

A more high-tech option than those above is to use a steam cleaner to remove carpet dents. It works much the same as the blow dryer and iron methods–the heat and moisture loosen and fluffs the fiber–but may be quicker and more effective for particularly stubborn dents.

The Easiest Solution Of All!

If all of this sounds like too much work, you’re probably thinking that you could just rearrange your furniture to hide the dents or buy a rug to cover them. That won’t help the dents, but at least you won’t have to look at them anymore. Or…

You could just call a professional like Fresh ‘n Dri! We can be there today! Our heavy-duty cleaning equipment will do an amazing job on those dents and will still be gentle on your carpet. Our prices are reasonable and our service is fast. We’re ready for your call!

Protecting Your Carpet – High Traffic Areas

One of the main reasons people hire residential carpet cleaning services is because of dirt buildup in high-traffic carpet areas. High-traffic areas consistently have people walk over them from day to day; examples include stairways, family rooms, and hallways. Over time, all this traffic can deposit dirt and other undesirable material, diminishing carpet’s appearance. Luckily, there are steps you can take to both protect carpet in high-traffic areas, and clean it to remove dirt that does get deposited.

Protecting High-Traffic Areas

Regardless of how much traffic an area of your home gets, there are many steps you can take to protect your carpet.

Designate a Shoe Storage Zone: A simple way to cut down on the amount of dirt entering your home–and reaching your carpet–is to set up a clear area around entryways where residents and guests can take off and store their shoes. Many families even designate an entire room, often called a “mud room,” for this purpose. A side benefit of this practice is that people will always know where their shoes are.

Barring a dedicated shoe zone, consider placing a doormat by all entryways, if you haven’t done so already. Doormats are much easier to clean or replace than carpet.

Buy the Right Carpet: Not all carpet is created equal–each kind has its own strengths and weaknesses. When buying carpet, you’ll have three main factors to consider: the carpet’s style, its material, and its color. Regarding style, in high-traffic areas, Angie’s List recommends Berber carpet rather than shag. That’s because Berber carpet is very dense, which helps it repel dirt. As an added benefit, that density also helps Berber carpet last longer in high-traffic areas.

Material is another consideration. Per Angie’s List, Berber carpet comes in three main materials: wool, nylon, and Olefin. Olefin is the cheapest, but for a reason: It’s not as durable as the other two. Wool is more durable than Olefin, but also more expensive than both it and nylon. For a high-traffic area, nylon is probably the best choice–it wards off stains and “stands up to foot traffic and furniture weight.”

Though a carpet’s color won’t directly help repel dirt, it does have an effect on how much dirt shows up. As you might guess, white carpet is a bad choice for high-traffic areas. Light grays should be avoided as well. Darker colors will do a better job of hiding dirt and other unwanted additions to your carpet–but it’s important to clean dark carpet regularly nonetheless.

Regularly Clean: Whether you do it yourself or hire residential carpet cleaning services, regularly cleaning your carpet is essential to protecting its looks and integrity, especially in high-traffic areas. Vacuuming up dirt early can prevent it from becoming ground deeper into the carpet. Think of taking care of carpet as like taking care of a car: Regular maintenance can prevent a much larger problem down the road.

Use Runner Rugs: Runner rugs aren’t just for placing over hardwood: They can also be used to protect carpet. Their long, narrow shape makes them ideal for hallways. Meanwhile, stair runners can provide protection on stairways. Dark runner rugs can be especially valuable over light-colored carpet, which easily shows dirt.

Cleaning High-Traffic Areas

Sometimes high-traffic areas build up dirt despite our best efforts. And even if your carpet doesn’t look dirty right now, regularly cleaning it will keep it looking its best. Here’s a look at different carpet cleaning methods and tips.

Keep Supplies in Multiple Areas: Consider buying multiple sets of stain removers and a roll of paper towels to tuck away in each high-traffic area. That way, if someone tracks in a bunch of mud or spills something on accident, you won’t have to scramble to another room and root around for cleaning supplies.
Vacuuming: Vacuuming is one of the simplest, most effective preventative measures you can take for carpet in general. Vacuuming is especially helpful in high-traffic areas. Weekly vacuuming can suck up dirt before it becomes ground into the carpet. Once dirt is ground in, it retreats deep into the carpet’s fibers and becomes much harder to remove. Better Homes and Gardens recommends a minimum of vacuuming once a week in high-traffic areas of your house. provides more detailed instructions for vacuuming carpets: “Spend the bulk of cleaning time where dirt collects: a dozen passes of the vacuum within 4 feet of outside doors, eight passes in high-traffic areas, and four passes elsewhere.” For the most efficient results, empty the vacuum’s bag whenever it’s half full; otherwise, it will start to become less effective.

DIY Dry Cleaning: According to, one fast, easy method to clean a carpet is through dry cleaning. It’s pretty simple: First, you vacuum an area to pick up easy-to-reach dirt. Then, you simply use a store-bought dry-cleaning solution. It’s important to start from the outer parts of the area and work your way in, rather than vice versa. Working your way out from the inside may just spread the dirt or stain around.

Once the store-bought dry-cleaning solution has had time to work, it’s time to vacuum again. This removes the solution as well as any dirt it has loosened. You can use a vacuum’s nozzle attachment to restore the pile (the fabric of the carpet) as well.

DIY Foam Cleaning: This method has a lot in common with dry cleaning, but uses a foaming cleaner instead. The prep work is the same: Pick out a store-bought foaming cleaner, keeping in mind that some options are better than others when it comes to factors like traffic and the presence of children or pets. Vacuum to get as much dirt out of the way as you can. Then follow the cleaner’s instructions. Next, you can either use a steam cleaner for the entire carpet, or focus on the high-traffic area by using a damp towel to blot up residue. After that, use a dry towel to remove moisture, and wait for the carpet to dry. Finally, as with the dry-cleaning method, you can use a vacuum’s nozzle attachment to revert the pile to its original state.

Try Residential Carpet Cleaning Services For High-Traffic Areas

For the best possible results, you’ll want to hire a professional crew to provide residential carpet cleaning services. The recommendation from Better Homes and Gardens is to use professionals one to two times per year.

There are several advantages to such a strategy: Professionals have top-of-the-line equipment; they’re experienced in cleaning many different types of carpet; and they can offer the best strategies for extending the life of your carpet and keeping it looking fantastic. Additionally, a professional cleaning may be necessary to maintain the warranty on your carpet.

Easy Home Carpet Stain Removers

With carpeting, one thing is certain. Every kind of substance will get spilled on it, and most likely it will happen when it’s fairly new or has just been cleaned. Having kids or pets, or even a husband, can compound the problem immensely. So, how do you keep your beautiful carpet clean? With stains, different treatments work on different messes. But no matter what your gang gets into, we’ve found some pretty awesome DIY tips that should do the trick to get your carpet clean.

Here Are A Few Home Carpet Stain Remover Recipes To Try:

  • Red wine: Quick! Pour some white wine on it to dilute it, then clean it with cold water and a sponge. Now sprinkle salt liberally on the stained area and wait ten minutes or so before vacuuming up the mess.
  • Ketchup spill: You have to act really quick with tomato-based stains, because once they are dried in, they are nearly impossible to remove. Sprinkle salt liberally, let sit for five minutes, and vacuum up. Sponge up any remaining residue and continue this process until the stain is out.
  • Kool-Aid or Juice: This can be difficult to remove, if you don’t know the trick! First blot as much as possible with a dry, white towel. Don’t rub, that might spread it or make it harder to get out. A mixture of white vinegar, water and Dawn dishwashing liquid will do the trick most often. Mix it up in a spray bottle, with a quarter cup of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of Dawn and water the rest of the way. Spray it really well and walk away for ten minutes. Grab another dry, white towel and blot like crazy.
  • Pet stains: Most pet owners face this at some time or another from their precious pup or even an older, but still ornery, dog or cat. Quickly clean up the initial mess; use gloves to pick up any yuck that is there, and the blot method for any liquids. Once you have removed all the liquid, you need to neutralize the odor and remove any spot. Try white a quarter cup of white wine or white vinegar in water and spritz it liberally on the stain. Allow it to soak for several minutes and blot up the stain. Another cleaning method for pet stains is mixing water with stain-fighting laundry detergent in a spray bottle. Spray on, let soak, blot, rinse and repeat, as necessary.
  • Coffee or tea stains: Coffee and tea stains are some of the worst, leaving yellow/brown stains that your visitors might mistake for a pet mess. We’ve got you covered if you spill your java, though! First blot the spot dry with a dry, white towel. Try a mixture of vinegar, non-bleach detergent and water first with your spritzer bottle, and repeat it a few times if necessary. Another old wives remedy says that pouring some beer on it will help remove it, and suggests that you rub the beer lightly into the rug, making the stain disappear. Voila! Some carpet will stand up to bleach, and you might need to try a safety test of yours to see if it is colorfast, even with a quarter cup of bleach mixed into a cup and a half of water in a spray bottle. If your test comes out okay, soak the spot with your mixture, blot it dry and rinse well until that coffee is gone.
  • Blood stains: The key to removing blood from your carpet is doing it fast and always using cold water, because it will keep the blood from soaking in deeper. A spray bottle with cold water and some liquid Dawn detergent should be sprayed directly on the stain.Use paper towels or dry, white cloths to blot as much as possible out of the carpet. Use a cold rinse, and repeat if needed. OxiClean is another cleaner you might try, because the oxygenation removes most carpet stains. Dilute the OxiClean with warm water, but add as much cold as possible, and use the blot method until the spot is gone.
  • Ink Stains: This is probably one of the hardest stains to remove, but there are some things you can try. Moisten a clean, white cloth with isopropyl alcohol with a high percentage, and then dab it carefully on the ink stain. Do not rub, do not scrub; that will only spread the stain. Let it stand for several minutes, then grab your shop vac to suck up the liquid. You may need to try it two or three times before you get it all out. Other items that can work are hairspray, nail polish removers, anything typically with a high alcohol content, WD-40, and cornstarch. Seriously! Mix a little milk with cornstarch to make a paste, and apply it to the ink stain. Let this dry, brush off the dried gunk and vacuum it up. Most often, the ink will be gone from the carpet!
  • Spilled paint or nail polish: Mix 3 teaspoons of white vinegar, 3 teaspoons laundry detergent and 3 cups of water. Sponge away the paint before it dries and rinse with cold water. You might also dab gently with paint remover or a dry-cleaning fluid.
  • Grease and oil: Would you believe us if we told you to spray some shaving cream on it and let it dry? Seriously, rub it into the stain, allow it to dry, then remove with a clean, damp cloth. Repeat, if necessary. Another grease and oil remedy is cornstarch; sprinkle it liberally on the spots and allow it to sit overnight, then vacuum it up. If it’s not all gone, there should be a marked improvement. A combination of salt and rubbing alcohol is also a great grease stain fighter. Rub it hard into the stain, let dry and vacuum.
  • Mystery stains: Sometimes, you have no idea what a stain is; you just know you want it out. There are some home carpet stain remover ideas that are good for all purposes, and some things you will want to keep on hand for carpet emergencies. Always keep white vinegar on hand; for light carpet stains, dissolve 2 tablespoons of salt in half a cup. For darker or bigger stains, add 2 tablespoons of borax to the mix. For really tough stains, try vinegar mixed with cornstarch; rub it in good and let it set for a couple days before vacuuming. A mixture of 1 cup of clear ammonia in a half gallon of water can lift stains from upholstery and carpeting by sponging them clean and repeating if needed. Hydrogen peroxide and a little bit of cream of tartar or standard toothpaste can remove mystery stains most of the time, too.

Of course, when all of those home carpet stain remover recipes just do not seem to be enough, you can always call for professional assistance and get a pro that has worked on your same type of stain hundreds of times.

Tips to Keep Your Carpet Clean for Longer

If you have carpet in your home, you no doubt know how difficult it is to keep it in good condition. Most of this is due to the wear-and-tear of foot traffic, but a carpeted floor in a particularly crowded house with children and pets can be especially problematic. A good residential carpet cleaning company will work wonders when it comes to keeping your carpet looking its best, but there are also things you can do yourself that will extend its life. Most of these solutions cost next to nothing, so they’re perfect even for a household on a budget.

How Can Residential Carpet Cleaning & Maintenance Benefit You?

Like just about any kind of maintenance in your home, caring for your carpet is mostly about diligently cleaning messes and addressing issues as you see them. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t some more specific things you can do to take care of your carpet and make it last. Here are a few things you can do for your carpet right now.

Get A Good Carpet Pad

If you have large area rugs or are installing new carpet, now is the time to get a good carpet pad. A carpet pad adds more give to your carpeted floor and makes it more comfortable to walk on, but it also adds some much-needed protection to your carpet. Without a pad, your carpet is laying on top of hardwood or concrete, which will cause it to wear through much more quickly and be harder to clean. Some carpet companies even require a quality pad for their warranty.

A good carpet pad isn’t hard to come by, and there are plenty of pads on the market for you to choose from. Shop around to find the best pad for your floor, and don’t be afraid to ask your favorite residential carpet cleaning service for recommendations.

Vacuum Regularly

Any home that has any carpeted surfaces should also have a vacuum cleaner. Vacuuming regularly removes dirt and debris and keeps it from becoming embedded in your carpet. You should be vacuuming your carpet at least twice a week, but you’ll want to increase that frequency if you have children and pets. You should also pay closer attention to the high traffic areas such as hallways, your living room and anywhere you regularly entertain guests.

You should also never neglect to maintain your vacuum cleaner. Check the brushes to make sure they are clean, and replace them when they become too worn. You should also be changing out your vacuum cleaner bag when it gets half full if you want it to be at its most efficient.

Groom Your Carpet

Just like your own hair and your pets’ fur, your carpet can and should be groomed if you want it to look its best. Brush your carpet to lift up tufts of fibers so they stand on end, and use scissors to remove any sprouts that won’t come up any other way. Do all of this before vacuuming for best results, and never pull on your carpet fibers as it damages the carpet and lifts it off your floor.

Place Walk Off Mats Inside And Outside Your Home

Few things can make a bigger mess of your carpet than having someone track dirt into your home. To keep this from happening, place walk-off mats outside and inside your home at every entrance and encourage your guests and family to either wipe off their feet or take off their shoes before walking on to your carpet. Many homes already do this during the winter when these mats are arguably the most useful, but they can be used throughout the year to keep your carpet looking its best.

Treat Your Carpet With Stain-And-Soil-Resistant Products

Many carpets are pre-treated with products that help them resist soil and stains, but you can still purchase products on your own if you’re worried about your carpets becoming too stained. While these products obviously won’t keep your carpet from getting dirty if you spill something or track dirt into your home, they do make your carpet easier to clean and prevent stains from setting in. Speak to a residential carpet cleaning company for product recommendations that may be of use for your type of carpet.

Clean Spills As Quickly As Possible

Whenever you spill something onto your carpet that could leave a stain, it is imperative that you clean it up as quickly as possible. There’s not guarantee that you can prevent your carpet from staining if you spill something like red wine or coffee, but most spills and spots can be cleaned if you know how to do so and you address them quickly.

Rotate Your Furniture

Keeping your furniture in one place for too long can be hard on your carpet, especially when everyone’s feet hanging off the edges of chairs and couches, rubbing the carpet in the same places. If you have enough room to do so and your furniture isn’t too heavy, try to rearrange your furniture every six months or so. This will give your carpet pile some relief from the stress that heavy couches, entertainment centers, tables and chairs put on it over time.

Protect Your Carpet When Moving Heavy Furniture

When you move heavy furniture, you no doubt have to drag it across your floor to get it where you want it. Not surprisingly, this is really hard on your carpet. If you have to move something that is too heavy for you to lift off the ground, put down some protection for your carpet, such as a piece of cardboard or plywood. Also, you may want to check with your local hardware store for “furniture sliders.” They come in several sizes, designed to work on a variety of floors, and you can reuse them each time you move. You’ll still have to use a lot of effort to actually move the object, but at least you can avoid putting too much strain on your carpet in the process.

Have Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned At Least Once A Year

Most people wait until their carpets are visibly dirty or stained before they hire a residential carpet cleaning service to fix the problem. This is a big mistake. Not only does it make the actual cleaning process that much harder, it gives dirt, oil and potential allergens a chance to settle into your carpet. An annual, professional cleaning from a good carpet cleaning service will go a long way in keeping your carpet clean and your family healthy, even when your carpet isn’t visibly soiled.

If you are ready for that professional deep-clean, Fresh ‘n Dri is ready for your call. We can be there today! 435-767-1950

The Best Ways to Clean Grout

Techniques For Cleaning Grout

What Is The Best Way To Clean Grout?

Tile walls and floors can be beautiful, but if the grout looks dirty, it can spoil the look. You may think grout cleaning is a lot of work, and you have been putting it off. We are here to help you with tips and tricks for cleaning grout and preparing to seal grout.

Grout Brush

Almost all tips for tile and grout cleaning involve using a grout brush. You can buy a grout brush from your local home improvement store, and they are available in many styles. Many look like a large tooth brush with a narrow head and stiff bristles. The brushes are designed so that the bristles can get between the tiles and contact the grout for effective grout cleaning.

Water And A Brush

The simplest method to clean grout is to use water and a grout brush. Wet the grout and brush the gout with the brush. Even if you plan to use chemicals later to clean your grout, it is a good idea to use water and a brush first to loosen and remove some of the loose dirt. Rinse the grout with water after brushing.

If you use chemicals for tile and grout cleaning, it is a good idea to use pH-neutral chemicals. Baking soda is nearly pH-neutral and is a great product to use for cleaning grout. Bleach and ammonia should be avoided because they can stain your grout. You should not use vinegar because it can damage your grout, but if you use vinegar with baking soda then the pH of the mixture would be about pH-neutral. Vinegar and baking soda make a great grout cleaner, and it is often recommended as a drain cleaner. Hydrogen peroxide is much less acidic than vinegar and would a good choice to mix with baking soda to create a nearly pH-neutral cleaner.

Baking Soda And Vinegar

Baking soda can be made into a paste using water. In a small bowl, mix a small amount of baking soda and add a little water while mixing to create a paste that you can put on your grout brush. Fill a spray bottle with half water and half vinegar and spray this solution on the tile and grout. Put some baking soda paste on the grout brush and scrub the grout. Rinse the grout and tile and repeat if needed. You are now ready for grout sealing.

Bleach: Proceed With Caution

Bleach should be avoided because it can stain your grout. Bleach can darken grout over time so it should only be used as a last resort. You should only use bleach if you can provide good ventilation to the area. Oxygenated bleach and ammonia are two other products that can stain your grout and should be not be used.

  • Grout sealing is a great way to keep your grout clean. Grout sealing is also a good way to reduce using harsh chemicals.
  • You should try to keep the tiles and grout as dry as you can to reduce mold growth. One tip is to wipe down the tiles after you shower. This will keep your tiles and grout perfectly clean.
  • You should always use your exhaust fan while you shower to remove the steamy air.
